My 5yr old Bush fridge stopped cooling so I replaced the faulty thermostat. The original was a metre long but the replacement is about 600mm (not as advertised!). I decided to try it anyway but the fridge still isn’t cooling. Does that suggest there’s also a fault elsewhere or does a shorter thermostat somehow prevent a fridge from working ?

It’s a Bush M55TLW20. The fridge compressor appears to be working. I was thinking of checking the sensor but the only access to it seems to be via the back panel which seems to be stuck into place and difficult to remove. Cheers.
The original thermostat was a WDF23A which discontinued, I got a WDF20.if the compressor is running and its not cooling you need a new fridge
all the stat does is turn on and off the compressor. if its on its done its job till its cold enough

The two thermostats, I think, operate on different temperatures so won’t be interchangeable I’m afraid.

Would you still expect there to be a temperature change within the fridge even if the thermostats vary in length ?
Not if the stat didn’t get don to the correct temp it was set to cut off at, it’d just keep on running and freeze.
But, if it’s not running at all with any stat in it th chances are it’s a compressor fault. Or wiring perhaps but that’s a bit of an outside chance.

Interesting, so there would be no point in throwing more money at it ? It’s a poor show for a 5yr old fridge
I wouldn’t advise it.
TBH, it is a “budget” appliance as most Bush machines are and they’re not the greatest for the most part, built to a price basically.

A shorter thermostat capillary can’t sense the correct temperature range, so it may not trigger the cooling cycle properly. Try getting the proper length thermostat first, if it still doesn’t cool, the issue could be with the compressor or relay. However, buy a new one instead of spending money on the old one. I hope this helps.
