    Good afternoon.

I have a very old Smeg SUK62MFX5 with double oven and gas hob. I guess that it had seen a very hard life before I bought it some six years ago. I have repaired it several times, but now I have a problem which I cannot diagnose and hope that someone may be able to advise. The main (lower) oven has always run rather hotter than the control suggests but by using an oven thermometer, this has been no problem. However, last weekend the oven was struggling to reach 180 deg C, even with the dial turned to full. Further investigation showed that the main fan is not turning. I have taken a look inside (with the power off, of course) and found that the fan motor still turns freely, i.e. is not jammed. I have tested both the motor and the heating element with a multimeter and both give a reading of around 20 ohms. The push-on connectors feel firm and I have wobbled them slightly to ensure good contact. But all to no avail. I reassembled the cooker and tried it again, but still no fan. The oven is drawing current (the one advantage of having a smart electricity meter which immediately showed an increase in the power being used) so it looks like the element is drawing power. Is there any other component that might be causing the fan to not function?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Peter

behind the oven knob is a switch that activates the fan

have you tried giving the fan a push when you turn it on

only asking because if the fan bearing fails it will give a good reading and turn by hand but will sieze when energised but if you push it it will feel different when enrgised proving power is getting to it or not

you cant get a shock by touching the fan while its on but you could burn yourself on a hot element
