A suggestion from Craig (who works for Ken)

craig wrote:pps. Idea for new sticky:
If you don’t even know what a pump is then FECK OFF and don’t
    ask us how to
fix machines yourself. Because you can’t.
    Just an idea.

I did a post as no-one had answered two of the enquirers posts.
When I hit the submit I found Martin had posted so I withdrew and PM’ed the following to Martin.
I was rather embarrassed with my post however here goes what I sent to martin.

    PM to Martin
I was asked to run a marathon, I said, “Piss off”.
They said come on, it’s for spastics and blind kids.
Then I thought, fuck it, I could win this.

Also the post I withdrew was:-

Unfortunately we can only advise you on what the fault may be.
To advise you how to replace the bearings puts us a risk of litigation
It causes us to assume your level of experience which off course we can’t do
In fact the word Assume is made up of the letters arranged thus
    ASS-U-ME
For me to ASSUME your level of experience would definitely make an ASS of U and/or ME.
For me or any other engineer to instruct you would certainly cause us to wrongly estimate your skills.
There is no way we can judge your skills without overseeing you perform hundreds of jobs
For us to assume anything would could lead to serious consequences so we have to assume nothing and leave you to your own devices
Because of the quality of todays appliances, most appliances now have many risks including:
    1/. Unswitched live wires
2/. Devices that store a lethal current even when the power is disconnected
3/. Edges of metal that are Razor sharp
We too are exposed to the same income threatening problems but experience and endless training has prepared us.
I once had a customer who was a professional musician
He was an oboist in the National Orchestra.
He made his living at this
He proceeded to repair an appliance and nearly severed his finger on a Razor sharp stainless steel edge. This gentleman spent 3 months of work without income and was lucky to return to his profession.
    My advice to you:
1/. Your health is not worth it
2/. You wealth is not worth it
    3/. Call Repairs @
or if you think I’m only giving you the run around
Call the manufacturer and book their service
You may say we are only saying this to protect our income by having a technician do your work however that is not the agenda.
Read in our new stories of families who have lost the bread winner if you don’t believe me
We are just avoiding messy litigation and horror of horror, you injuring yourself possibly even fatally.
    Sorry to be blunt but
A spade is a spade is a spade is a spade

    Bit rough eh??
The reason I withdrew it was that it was too crass?.
It also would have gone against what I later found in the Articles & Help section.
I had finally followed some of the links as posted in the forums that direct guests to the individual contents of the Articles and Help area. http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ge&pid=102.
In this help area and in many of the posts you guys instruct people to “Do It Yourself”, which, in my opinion, is a recipe for disaster not to mention a revenue loss for engineers in Repairs@. I tend to leave it to pointing out the fault.

Not the end of the PM but enough for this Forum as Craig has re-inforced my thoughts on this subject.

That’s great Alexa, I think we should mould and use that as a basis to get into an article that we can point the “have a go heroes” at when they start that crap.

The guy was a bit thick though and, alledgedly, is a BMW X5 owner, so he can well afford a proper repair. 😉

    Phewww!!!

I thought that post might have pushed the boundaries of our friendship and sweated on it for a while.

Hope the joke I left in the post above didn’t offend anyone.

You never know peoples circumstances however I’m sure you’d edit if required.

    Re: New Sticky ?

Look, he’s a twat with no ability – he’s posted again, so we haven’t killed him – why the fuck should we care? Unfortunate that it has to be Dave, who has shown commendable restraint; but as we all know, we can’t do the blow by blow “how to fix it” routine.

It’s a very fine line sometimes – does this poster know anything, or is he an idiot? I answered a d/w post the other night and the poster descibed exactly his problem, so giving a reply with some large clues in it was not a big problem, and we had a happy reply this morning. Well, yesterday now.

With any luck this particular idiot will post back in a day or two to complain that he did indeed have to pay his £89.95 call out to get the chicken bone out of his pump, then we can (I gather that this is a “Forum Technical Term” from Julia) “flame” him for his own incompetance.

Let us enjoy the moment when it comes.

    Chris.

Well said Chris, the guy is obviously a fool.

Thing is it’s obvious to anyone reading that thread that he hasn’t a clue and that the advice given is correct, call an engineer.

To anyone that doesn’t understand that then they’re the type that just would never pay for a repair and are just asking for trouble and why should we help them commit suicide or wreck their home?

    Re: New Sticky ?

Sorry chaps been a bit busy don’t you know and am trying to catch up? Being an old git it takes a while to read all the stuff I’ve missed (what with my failing eyesight and stuff)….so!…seems someone has posted a ‘Sticky’ but I’m not sure to who you refer?

Is it the guy that Dave posted in reply to his asking how to access a pump?

    Yes Martin.

There’s no new sticky though, it was meant as a joke, Craig’s suggestion only 😉

That’s where the confusion for me set in 😕

Even so I still wonder why Dave was so abrupt in his first response to common enough request by a member of the general public after all ❗

Possibly “Not a DIY fix, try Repairs@” may have been better received ❓

His direct question was, “how to access the pump ?” So I told him.

Had he requested more advice after he’d actaully found or even knew what a pump was he would have got it. Same as the one’s that tell us “I can’t find the lower panel on my dishwasher” (ref to flooded bases etc). I mean, how far can you go ?

    Dave.
