Hoover AC170 Carbon Brushes

    Call today a Hoover AC170 carbon brushes worn out checked and cleaned armature and replaced carbons but on test as it goes into fast spin machine stops spinning and all indicator light flash I told customer the fault will disappear when carbons wear down to the same shape as the armature, Question I’m I wrong or right ????

    The heater may have a small earth leak on it, that causes these machines to do all sorts of odd things.

    Or it could just be the arcing new brushes as you say šŸ˜‰

    Dave, Thanks for the reply did not check the heater as fault was no motor action and as the motor ramps up you can hear brushes arcing I think Im right but its nice to have it confirmed by others who do the same job, only time will tell to see if I get a recall (Hope not)

    I`m afraid to say that my experience of this is that you have a shot armature and it will chew through the new brushes in weeks or will continue to cut out with lights flashing. šŸ™

    New motor only solution as I don`t think armature available seperately on this motor . Don`t think motor is too expensive for that model. šŸ™‚

    Did check the armature no segments lifted and seemed ok fine on normal tumble, only when it ramped up to fast spin the fault appeared Ill wait and see what happens my customer will soon let me know
