Keymasterok, we have a built in fridge freezer, about a week ago it started making a kind of buzzing/grinding noise.
Yesterday is stopped working, still has power but doesnt cool.
Question is…..
a callout is £80, if they cant fix it then that money is wasted. Am I better off cancelling the callout & just ordering a new fridge & finding someone who can fit it, its in an awkward space. cheers

I’ve just seen that I can get a new one for 385 pounds however, am reluctant to do so as this is the 2nd we’ve had (first replaced under warranty).

Looking at the diagram it may just be the thermostat, I was concerned that this may be an electronically controlled unit but it’s not 😀
Thermostat (genuine) is around the £30 ,ark but quite often generic one’s will do just as well.
Let the engineer have a look would be my advice 😉

really unimpressed with Brandt. told them on phone we thought it might be the compressor & asked roughly how much it would be. Were told £40 to £100 depending on which model so we went ahead with the £70 callout.
Engineer (nice chap) confirmed it was the compressor, the quote then came from Brandt.. and it will be……..an additional £260 !!
So we have paid £340, could have got a new model for about 20quid more. Brandt of course deny having said it would be 40 to 100.
Great service guys!

to compound the problem, 2nd engineer comes out to fit compressor & says thats not the problem, fridge is kn@ckered beyond repair! it just gets better.

to end this sorry tale, thanks to you guys I got a 2nd opinion from one of the guys you reccomended, they came & fixed fridge in an hour, it seems that the “appliance repair centre” from hanwell who came out intially are a bunch of morons & did more damage than good. However, they got their 70 quid callout fee so I’m sure they are happy.
Thanks to you guys, v helpful.

ok.in short….
engineer no 1 from “the appliance repair centre” hanwell comes out and says “compressor” knackered and orders one.
engineer no2 comes a week later with the compressor, arses about for 3 hours, swears a lot then says whole fridge knackered & leaves.
engineer no 3 from somewhere else comes out, has a look & says all connections to compressor have been knackered by eng no2.
spends ages and eventually fits new compressor & fridge works fine.
Hanwell appliance repair centre pretty much told me to f*** off when I asked for my money back but thats fine because I have told plenty of people about them.
