Has anyone else had this problem before, on a Whirlpool or any other make? Our is an AWZ541 condenser dryer.
I replaced the thermostat pair last night as one of the pair had burnt out and taken the spade connector with it. I think we were lucky it hadn’t caught fire.
When I restarted the machine to test it, there was an arcing sound and a plume of smoke rose from the rotary switch assembly. On closer inspection I discovered a wire into a spade connector on top of the switch was burnt. I pulled the wire and it came out easily from the connector. The spade connector itself was burnt where the wire had obviously been arcing against it, and the plastic cover was partly melted. I have replaced this too and now all seems to be well.
The question I have is, are these two failures related? Could the arcing of a bad connection cause arcing on the thermostat which, in turn, caused both to burn out?
