Our upright Hotpoint freezer has been defrosted and not used for several weeks. On switching it back on the compressor (I think) makes a loud sucking noise for a second or so and the trip switch for the whole house is triggered. There is then a slight burning smell. This process can be repeated.
    Any ideas?

I think the loud sucking noise is actually the compressor start device “frying”.

The compressor is possibly made by Danfoss (label on it), in which case it’s not an unusual complaint and not too costly either. Leave it switched off please until it’s repaired :zap:

If you need an engineer, check repairs@ 😀

The start devices are around £15 normally but labour rates vary vastly across the UK, rough(ish) guide about £60-£70 job completed.

That’s assuming it is that of course but it does sound like it.

    Dave.
