Keymaster😡 We have a Hotpoint FFM70 fridge freezer, which incidentally replaced a previous Hotpoint that had many problems! The fridge is at top and is constantly freezing over at the back, then defrosting and depositing great puddles beneath the salad trays at the bottom. We have both the fridge and the freezer set at the suggested temperatures by Hotpoint, but this is happening now on a daily basis. Can anyone help?

The drain hole on the bottom rear of the fridge compartment is blocked with sludge. A cable tie or straw to poke a hole through it will cure it.

Oh joy of joys! I’ve found someone with a similar problem to mine! (no offence intended).
Similar problem, except that my freezer (bottom) drain-hole keeps getting blocked with ice (not sludge). I initially manually defrosted it (switched it off and kept the door open for 48hrs), but I didn’t think (yes, I admit it – I didn’t think!) that the drain hole would still be iced-up.
With Simons words of wisdom, the next time I defrosted the freezer I poked the straw down the drain hole to make sure it was clear. Sure enough, I felt some ice crunch in there.
But I’m scared to push the straw in too far – how far should the straw go in?
One final point – my fridge/freezer is built into a cabinet. If I need to get to the back of it to inspect the condenser/drain tray will I need to remove (or break into!) the cabinet housing?
Many thanks,

Hi
depending on the make it may well be that you could need the defrost heater extended into the drain if the insulation is failling,or that the one way valve on the drain hose is sticking due to build up of dirt in it.
Simple job to carry out depending on the make and model

Make is a Bernstein.
Model is a……it didn’t say, but had the following numbers –
0431
02-900394
504310597I’ll check the insulation.
If its dirt on the one-way valve on the drain hose, then I’m going to have to get to the back of the unit – something which will take up more time and effort.
Can I run an idea past you – what if I blow some steam done the drain hole – would that clear the valve?
Many thanks,

The channel should run all the way down to the compressor where any water would be collected in a tray and evaporate.
So you should be able to push you straw in as far as you can, just don’t let go 😉

Cheers Craig.
Hope I don’t damage the “one-way” valve on the drain hose.
Many thanks,
