ParticipantThe fridge has an intermittent fault causing the temperature to rise well above the +3 C setting. When it is in this state I can restore its correct function by switching the mains switch off and on, after which it maintains +3 C for a long period, perhaps overnight, then reverts to it’s fault condition.
The freezer compartment maintains -22 C without any problem.
The fault appeared after a problem with a faulty MCB in the consumer unit which was tripping without load, consequently the fridge freezer was being disconnected and reconnected to the mains supply a number of times per day for about a week until the faulty MCB was replaced.
Having searched elsewhere on this site thermistors are commonly referred to as being the culprits. I’m capable of replacing these if needed (I am qualified electronics engineer).
Any help would be appreciated.

hi tempest, i’ve not looked at a mistral for a few years, so one of the other guys may be better placed to reply to you on this.
having said that, from memory, factors which affect the fridge temperature are, the light switch, which also controls the fan, the motorised baffle which controls the airflow from the freezer to the fridge and indeed the thermistors. i always thought it was the freezer evaporator thermistor that did the damage, but again, one of the other guys may know differently.
one question though, is the display still showing 3c, or does it rise above this?
sorry i cant be of more help to you.cheers.

Hi Alf
Yes the display rises above +3 C.
The MCB fault really confused the situation until I put then Fridge/Freezer on an extension lead to another mains circuit.
Maybe the constant switching on and off of the mains supply has induced the fault.

Check whether the fan is running in the freezer compartment as this is what supplies the fridge with cold air.
As Alf says, this is effected by the light switch and the thermisor(s) in the freezer.

Hi Dave
The freezer fan is functioning on closing the light switch. As Alf mentioned a motorised baffle could be the problem as the cold airflow seemed minimal when I just checked it, or the fan is switching off before the fridge gets to temperature.
Cheers

It may well be a blockage in that case, check at the back of the freezer behind the rear panel (inside) for over-icing, if that’s all OK the baffle is part number 2600239 at £25.56 inc VAT and post which I can get for you.
Power off before heading in there please :zap:
Dave.

Hi there,
Did this problem get resolved Tempest? I ask because we have a mistral frost free fridge freezer (inherited it in our new home recently) and it seems to be suffering from the same problem – i.e. intermittingly rising above +3.
Grateful for any insight!
Thanks,
Susie

Hi Susie
I haven’t had a chance to look at the problem since my last post, plus the need for a reliable fridge has caused grief in the household so a new fridge/freezer is arriving today. I still intend to have a go at repairing it so I’ll update you when I get the time to check it out. In the meantime it’s going into “cold storage” in the garage.
Thanks to all on the forum for your help.

I got back from hols to find the same problem with my inherited Mistral fridge freezer. Fridge at +28 ‘C, freezer at -22 ‘C.
I found that switching it off for 24 hours helped. It worked ok for about a week then the problem started again.
I suspect it’s caused by ice blocking the airflow between freezer and fridge.
I’ll post if I find out how to cure it!
