Hi, have electrolux fridge/freezer (not frost free) model no ER2346B. Freezer is fine. This morning temp in fridge was high and bulb had gone.Have replaced bulb (strange coincidence?).Compressor seems to be working but whatever Temp setting I use cannot lower temp.If I turn the control down the compressor stops but does not restart if I up the control.Restarts after period of time.Could this purely be a thermostat control problem? Or does the compressor have 2 stages? (fridge temp is running at around 0-2c,if I dont open the door ) also compressor never seems to stop running.(but maybe at a lower level than it used to?) any help greatly appreciated. Thanks H.

hello ham, well, where to start?
first of all the compressor will not just switch back on after you’ve turned it off and you should never try doing that.
the compressor only has one ‘level’, in as much as it’s either on or off. the thermostat will normally determine the duty of it, if you turn the thermostat up, the compressor will run for longer, thereby lowering the temperature in the cabinet.
you say the fridge is running at 0-2’c, well thats perfectly acceptable, in fact it’s excellent.
    how old is the appliance?
without looking at it, it’s hard to diagnose and fridges are not really user serviceable. however, talking in terms of probability, does the light go out when you close the door? if the door is not making the switch, then the light would stay on. this would have the effect of raising the temperature in the cabinet. it may also be why the bulb has failed.
if the bulb and/or switch are ok, then your fault is likely to be either a gas ( shortage) fault or a compressor fault.

you could always try the repairs@ feature on this site.

    cheers.

thanks Alf.Light is switching fine.Appliance is about 8 yrs old.Only running at 0-2c if I dont open door, any use and temp rises taking too much time to come down again.Compressor is constantly on(hot and slight buzzing) but temp will not stay cool enough for normal use. thermostat control makes no difference other than to stop compressor when turned down to half(then temp starts rising) .Does this sound like a compressor fault to you? Many thanks H

hi ham, it’s very difficult without seeing the appliance.
i don’t think it’s the thermostat. they usually fail off, very occasionally they fail on, but hardly ever go out of calibration.
i still think it’s either gas or possibly compressor fault.

    cheers.
