ParticipantI have a Bosch twin-compressor, microprocessor, “frost free” upright fridge freezer (KKU3201GB/05). It’s about 5-6 years old, and performed faultlessly until last summer.
It went through a couple of weeks of being very “feeble” (it would warm up to -11 if you put any room-temperature stuff in it to freeze down). I removed the back panel to look at the matric and sure enough it was completely snowed-up, so I defrosted it and that seemed to fix it.
It did the same thing over Xmas, and again defrosting fixed it. Then it did it again in March/April, and again I defrosted it. In June it was really struggling, but then it started behaving normally again, which it still is.
The fridge is never affected and continues on at +2degrees like it was nailed there.
So now we get to the question – is this just an indication that it’s knackered, or is there a failure mode (a sensor, a connector, some cables, a control unit or what have you) which could cause this behaviour?
Oh yes – for the first few years engaging “super” mode would pull it down from its normal -18 to -29 or -30 within a couple of hours. More recently it only pulls down to -24ish.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi P,
The auto defrost function is applicable to the fridge section only. As you state that the fridge is functioning happily, the fault will not be related to the control circuitry. Ice accumulating in the freezer section is most likely attributable to the fit/sealing function of the freezer door. Check this, especially at the lower corners, and report back.Regards,

If the matrix on a frost free freezer ices up then there is a problem with the automatic defrost cycle, circuit board, NTC sensor or defrost elements.
Time for an engineer I think, check for an independent engineer in your area by clicling the big red tool box over to the left.regards

Now, now Dave – Paul needs to contact SEME, then take it for recycling.
Cheers,

Penguin45 you are a true prince amongst men!
I inspected the door seal and found it was distorted/not seating in two places (by vaseline test). Replaced the seal and it’s back to its old chilly self. Problem solved.
You will have my undying gratitute for all eternity or the next few days (whichever happens first) [offer subject to status, terms and conditions may apply – this most certainly does affect your statutory rights].
I’m a military aircraft design engineer by trade, so if you ever have any fast-jet flight control systems that are giving trouble drop me a line so that I can return the favour.

His fast jet control was working fine at the bar of the last UKW meeting 🙄

I’m getting there – I now own a classic SAAB as well as the Wolseley. Sadly, not a Viggen…..
Glad to help 😀
