Participanthello everyone, could someone please point in the right direction, my fridge which is about 3 years old has started making this generator like noise, i opened the back plate and the noise seems to be coming from the fan or motor, the compressor also gets very hot. before i call an engineer, can anyone advice before i splash out, not very good return on investment considering i paid £600 for it.
The cooling on both the freezer and fridge is not affected somehow.
please advice

Is this fan motor near the compressor ?
If it’s the compressor cooling fan motor it should be easily replaceable, very probably with a generic one.
Unfortunately Daewoo technical and spares information is a little thin on the ground shall we say 😉
If you can confirm the above, I can make some enquiries as to the costs etc for the genuine motor but as I mentioned, it may well be replaceable with a generic motor.
If you need an engineer try Repairs@ 😀

thanks for the quick reply dave
with the back plate off, the noise has subsided but still makes a grunting noise, definately a fan motor problem, but cooling on both compartments are normal. i spoke to a company called SEME, apparently they supply parts for both trade and consumers.
🙂 i know what you mean about daewoo and tech specs, nil, been searching everywhere this morning.
is it difficult replacing the fan and fan motor?

I’ve never replaced one so I don’t know how easy or difficult it is to be honest.
Can you confirm that this is the cooling fan motor for the compressor rather than the fan motor that forces the cold air round inside the freezer and/or fridge.
Power off if you’re going to attempt the repair yourself please :zap:

having looked at firdge freezer, the fan is for the compressor unit which is located at the bottom of the freezer. the air is flowing fine on both compartments. however the fan is not located next to the compressor but next to a pipe wicon mesh which is next to the comp.

OK, thanks.
I’ll check it out for you, SEME list a “fan motor” for this model but it’s not specific which one it is.
I’ll get back with more info when I have it 😀

ParticipantThis answer applies only to the 762 litre French door fridge with an ice maker. Other models may be fixed with this solution but that is only a guess.
My fridge has been driving me crazy with a noise from the fan located behind the ice maker. It only happens when the humidity is very high, ice builds up around the fan and the fan hits the ice causing a loud clacking sound.
The solution is simple, turn off the fridge and open the left door, remove the ice container/dispenser and bag the ice and place it in the freezer compartment if you want to keep it. Place a hair dryer in the cavity where the ice bucket was with the air outlet about half way into the cavity and run the hair dryer on medium to low heat and high fan speed with the door open. Leave it for about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the hair dryer and replace the ice bucket and turn the fridge on. It should now be working without any fan noise. -
