KeymasterHi,
Our Scandinova Fridge stopped working on Sunday morning (or Saturday Night) and we followed the instructions of resetting but its still not coming on at all.
Now its only about a year and a half old (no warranty left !! typical) so I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what could possibly be wrong with it.
Comet charge £49.99 just to come out and look at it !! so I am not sure I want to spend the money on that when I might be better spending it on a new fridge !!
What happened to fridges lasting for 10 years ??? !! my parents had the same one the whole time I was growing up !!
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated !!

Can you hear the motor running?

Think along the lines of respective prices, that may give an indication 😉
If you equate inflation in to the process, a fridge would probably cost over £1000 in “todays money”.
Consumerism and the retail price battle may well look very attractive when purchasing, but what suffers to keep the costs unrealistically low ? Quality basically 🙁

Thanks very much for the responses….
When you turn it on it sounds like it “wants” to start but then you can’t hear the motor running at all….
We didn’t go for the cheapest in the shop…!! it was £329 which I thought meant it would last more than a year and a half !!
)O; very annoyed

It was more of a general observation rather than aimed at your particular model 😀
I’m afraid it sounds very much like the compressor is struggling to start, which means either the starting device has failed or the compressor itself, the latter the more likely 🙁
You’ll need an engineer to check and confirm to be honest, have a look in Repairs@ for one near you that can help with a service visit.

Thanks very much !! hmmm they don’t even have our brand listed…
Think the answer is going to be “Throw it in the bin” …such a wasteful society we live in these days…
This year we have thrown out a Freezer, Washing Machine & Dryer ! looks like a Fridge is going to be added to the list…grrrrrrr

Funnily enough our Scandinova Larder Fridge has also just broken after 18 months. Comet informed me it was a broken compressor and after much humming we decided to let them fix it. Nearly a month and four visits later Comet have still failed to fix it. Can any one tell me how you can tell a compressor has broken, the engineer did no more than touch it with his hand. They now tell me there’s probably a leak. I believe my legal rights include the expectation that a product has a reasonable life expectancy – is 18 months reasonable for the major compenent of a fridge? Secondly what level of assessment should I expect before this major part is replaced?

it seems these scandinova fridges all seem to have similar problems we bought a matching fridge and freezer pack…fridge has stopped working after 18 months…fortunately we had an extra 12 months warranty from ur credit card company…comet engineer has been out…says its the compressor…10 days later we are still waiting for parts…our warranty comapny say that if the fridge cannot be repqired they will only pay 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} towards a new one…and we probably won’t be able to match it with the freezer which is still working!! reading all these posts suggests that these products are not fit for purpose…i would certainly expect the appliance to last longer than 18 months… they were certainly not the cheapest in the store…perhaps if we all contact comet en masse we might get our money back

I have owned a scandinova fridge and freezer for 7 years and up till now had no problems. However my fridge has just stopped working which is due to a leak. I am hoping it can be fixed as I will be lost without it. I have a domestic and general kitchencare insurance policy so I should be covered.
