Problem: Wash cycle sometimes doesn’t stop. It can go on for hours. Doesn’t seem to matter whether ‘quick wash’ button is pressed or not. But sometimes, especially after having not been used for a while all is well. Pump seems to be working OK.

Very likely the drain hose from the pump to the drain outlet is restricted in some way (kinked or limescaled build-up inside usually). Also check pump filter to see if impellor is clear and free to rotate (I know you said the pump works but often the pump is the likely cause 8) )
Do make note if any of the red panel lights flash at the end of the cycle? Often that gives a clue as to what ‘error’ has occurred 😉
