This was passed today as a news article, but I thought it more suited to the forums…..

I am 74 years old and I want to tell you about my Kelvinator refrigerator. My great grand mother, Ella ***** purchased this box. I am not sure of the year. She passed it on to my grand mother,Lucy ******, and then I got it at the last estate sale…

It is still running very quietly and chills better than the modern one in my kitchen, with never any repairs made on it. It has the small ice box in the center,at the top…. I just wanted to pass on this miracle…

Says a lot in many ways really, given such a fridge would probably cost a months wages if you take inflation in to account, yet we are now prepared to spend less than weeks wages on one and then moan when it doesn’t last very long……. 😉

And exactly what relevence did that have to this thread which was regarding how long a fridge lasted ? 😕

Kiddo, if you’re unsure how forums work and keeping topics “on topic” then I suggest you stay away from them as misunderstandings can easily happen 😉

We don’t have a “boys club” kiddo66, what we do have is over 13000 members in total and over 1000 of those are trade members encapsulating almost every walk of the industry, hardly an old boys club. So it looks as if you have misunderstood the forum in which you are posting.

Please keep your opinions factual or don’t bother to air them. If you have any further comments to make please feel free to contact me directly.

…back to the thread topic 😉

It would have cost considerably more than a months wages for such a major purchase no doubt. The majority of sales of major domestic appliances 30 and more years ago , was done using ‘Hire Purchase’.

Long before Barclaycard and Access started the later purchasing revolution, hire purchasing a fridge, typically over 3 years, was the only option. 😕
