I am based in Sydney and have a problem GW701.
For this test I only used cold water and low height, regular setting for agitator.
The test is without any clothes in the machine.
The symptoms are –
Power on, set height to low, select cold, hit START.
After the water gets to the appropriate height the agitator starts to work ok for about 15 seconds, stops, then starts for another 15 seconds then stops, all leds go out, constant beep, beep and the forth led from the left comes on (error code 16?) as the power seems to be off at this stage.
History –
I found the OOB switch had gone high resistance, around 600 ohms when should be short circuit, so I have replaced this; the problem described above was happening prior to me replacing the micro switch.
The problem has been getting progressively worse, ie. it was intermittently exhibiting the problem and just recently became unbearable.

I have removed the stator winding from the base of the drum and find that the locating tabs used to stabilise the stator winding to the drum base have all broken off. They were sitting in a pool of their own grease around the plastic stator frame.
The stator actually moves about more than it is supposed to and appears to rub against the rotor magnets.
Strange though as when it does a spin dry there is no extreme noise as would be expected.
Rather than replace the stator which looks expensive, is there some recommended way to have it repaired?

The saga continues. I found that the stator moved so that the connector to the sensor assembly was taking a fair amount of the force when the motor started up. I basically padded out the enlarged holes with thick steel wire so that the stator would only move a fraction of what it did previously. The rotor now does not rub against the stator and feels smoother.
Put it all together, connected up the motor and sensor cables tried it out and only get a couple of squirst of water into the drum, no motor movement at all. Machine turns off with only the led sequence showing error code 16 and continuous beeping.
Ideas?

Turn machine OFF on the front panel. Hold down the Water Temp Down button and press the POWER button. Release buttons. You are in Diagnostic mode. Press advance once, press the spin speed up button until the hold and slow are lit. Write down the LEDS which are lit across the top row of progress LEDS. and post back. 🙂

Ok did what you suggested held temp down then power to enter diagnostic mode.
When I hit the spin speed up button this has no effect but I get 5 rapid beeps and the only leds that are on are spin, and low water.

I found that someone else tried hitting the advance button once before spin speed up button until hold and slow lit to get the error code.
When I do this the progress leds are –
on off off off off off on on which looks like an error 131 code.Hope this helps.

You need to check the bowl sensor on the motor for corrosion and make sure the plug is on firmly. Failing this , it could be the motor controller. 🙁

Interesting.
Disassembled the motor and found one of the wires to the sensor connector was cut and had come away from the connector body. Reterminated and back to where I was.
On selecting my test wash (regular, cold, low) I advance to a fast wash, fills to where I expect, agitates for a few minutes as expected then with the progress leds I get to where it is about to commence a rinse cycle and the power cuts off with a constant beep and the 4th led from the left remains on (error 16?).
The error code is the same as what I got before ie. 131 when I go into diagnostic mode.
Wouldn’t there be issues with spin drying and the other motor functions if the bowl sensor (I am assuming the bowl sensor is the motor hall effect detectors) was at fault?
Do you mean the out of balance switch?
I have replaced this with a new one as the old one had gone high resistance (~600 ohms) when it was supposed to be a sub 1 ohm, also wouldn’t this show up with normal agitation movement?Regards,

Sure did. It appears to be in good condition. No corrosion, no burnt tracks, conformal coating is intact. Only one broken wire which I fixed.
