KeymasterI have a domestic cooker hood with a built in extractor fan
which currently ventilates to an outside wall via about 6ft of
“bog standard” plastic circular ducting (the stuff that looks like
a “slinky spring toy” with plastic coat on!).I am currently having a single storey kitchen extension built which
means that the outside wall currently used to expell the exhaust, will
now form part of the new roof space/void.no doubt I could just extend the ducting another 10 foot to the nearest
outside wall in the the new extension, but I think that the overall
length would just be simply too long to cope with the exhaust.I was thinking of installing some sort of “in-line” fan in the wallspace
at the point where the existing ducting terminates,to boost the airflow,
then continue with the “extended” ducting to the nearest outside wall.Could anyone suggest sutch a device capable of this scenario and are there
any building regulations to be wary of?July 27, 2005 at 8:56 pm #143323kwatt
KeymasterThere are machines availabel that will do that, known as “remote hoods” and Elica do make them, there’s a link in the Links section. They are not cheap though but will do the job correctly, probably for a long time.
The nice thing is that you also remove a lot of the local noise as well, so you get a quiet and efficient hood. 😉

Through expirance I have found that this hose you are laking about is not the best stuff to use! Also read instalation instructions as putting to many bends in the outlet is not a good idea also distance can be a problem.

For maximum efficiency, the criteria that most domestic hoods are built to is a max hose length of 3m with 1 90 degree bend, 2 m with 2 bends and 1 m with 3 bends. Longer runs are possible, but to maintain the original spec you will probably need an additional fan, as previously discussed.
