Having just moved house, the above washer/dryer is now regularly tripping the RCD in the consumer unit (the previous house didn’t have one, so it’s possible the problem isn’t new; on the other hand, the move could have broken something).

There doesn’t seem to be a particular pattern to it, but it tends to trip within a few seconds of starting a programme, or even when just depressing the power button. When it has run, it has filled, pumped, and turned the drum (at various times) all ok.

I’ve opened it up, and can see nothing obvious wrong (broken/chafed wires, etc), but there’s clearly a lot of things it could be. Can anyone suggest anything else specific I should check, or is it time for a new machine (it’s about 9 years old).

Hi Phil, It could be caused by several things, motor, heater etc. You would need proper electrical test equipment to trace.

If the machine was working fine before the move then I think it is worth getting it checked out.

Try here , please pull the plug if you intend to go further yourself.

Thanks for the reply; just confirms as I thought really, it could be anything.

Unfortunately, there’s no local repairer listed, and I don’t really fancy my chances with Yellow Pages.

The machine is getting on a bit anyway (I’ve replaced a few bits myself, door seals, motor brushes, sump hose, etc), and has been making a real racket for ages now (I suspect the suspension is shot), so it might be time to pension it off, rather than spend money investigating a potentially expensive fault.

    Thanks again,

    phil
