ParticipantI have a Candy CIC60 Condensor Dryer which has been working fine but yesterday the ‘Clean Filter’ light came on. I cleaned the filter on the inside of the door and the one you pull out at the bottom but the light is still on. Now it wont get hot and it spins in one direction only (should carry out reverse action). I can’t find a Candy website and have lost my user manual. Is there anything I can check simply (ie is there a simple element which might have gone, is the light directly related to the heat problem) or do I need an engineer ?

It’a almost certainly the heating element although this doesn’t explain the single direction only problem..
Have you left it running for long as the reverse action is only on for a few seconds and tere is a sizeable gap between them ?
If you need the heater, it’s this one in the shop:

Thanks for the reply Dave.
In answer to your question, Yes, I have left it on for long enough to check the reverse action. Could this be a seperate problem then ?
And why would a faulty heating element mean the light stays on ?
It just all seems linked to that light !

The light comes on due to a thermal fuse in the heater going open circuit and creating a “false” circuit.
The non-reverse is related to the timer (which could also cause no heat) by the sound of it so they could be related.
Best get an engineer to check in all honesty rather than buy spares that may not resolve the problem, check Repairs@ for one near you 😀

Many thanks again Dave. My wifes dad is an engineer (not on these but things in general) so I’ll get him to have a look. He has fixed a dishwasher before now. If not, I’ll find an expert from the link you gave me.

As you can see from the thread, he never came back to let us know the outcome. Click “email” on his post and you can get him direct.
However, the rest of the thread is valid – safety failure on the heater and timer failing to switch the reverse action. In combination it’s an expensive repair, perhaps more than the dryer is actually worth.

I have got to the bottom of this problem…. There is a thermal fuse in the heating element which has basically broken. You can get another fuse at maplin electronics website. You need Thermal fuse 152C part number RA17T
simply cut the old fuse off then crimp {NOT SOLDER}this fuse the same way as the old one… Problem solved. Fuses are about 70pence each heating elements are 45 quid….Cheers

My Candy has just today developed the same problem with the clean filter light and no heat. initially it went on and off a few times then remained on permanently. I suspected a faulty fuse or switch before finding this thread.
I have found the part on maplins that foxxys mentioned but I can’t remember seeing anything like this when I had it all in bits earlier.
Can anyone shed any light on where this thermal fuse is located

and i stand by my original comment
although it was deleted, i still say that the thermal fuse goes faulty because the cycling stat is faulty
its just better if you change the whole heater assembly, to be sure the fault is cured!
crimped connections dont always work well if your running a 2kw heater through them
anyway.. its imperative this machine is unplugged in any attempt of repair – the element stays live regardless of anything else.(i know, ve had the shock!)
hope this helps

Correct.
1) Heater assembly is extremely delicate.
2) Fitting thermal fuse without achieving a perfect contact will lead to localised overheating problems – fire risk.
3) Identify reason for failure. Airflow problems are standard – filters and condenser assembly both get blocked over time, leading to overheat. Opening the door after an hour is usually the one that does it……..Get yourself one of these:
