KeymasterThe condenser and filter are clean. Using a mains tester there is power reaching the elements during the drying cycle and no power for the 10 min cooling cycle, yet during the drying cycle the elements don’t heat up.
The High/Low heat button seems to work correctly because on low there is only power to one circuit.
I am at a loss to understand what is wrong! Can anyone suggest what the problem is?August 1, 2005 at 1:51 pm #143794Simon46

Do not test the appliance with it plugged in :zap: . Rather check for continuity across the components (disconnected) with a multimeter. You may be missing a neutral. Or check out repairs@ on the lhs of your screen.

Thanks for that Simon. I’m somewhat of a layman. Could you exlain what a neutral is ?
I have an automotive multimeter which can measure resistance or circuit. Would that be helpful?

Colin we are limited in what information we are allowed to give out to members of the public. We have to work with the assumption that you are not a reasonably competent person (don’t take that the wrong way, I just mean in relation to your knowledge of electrical circuits and components) and as such we cannot describe to you how to fully test your appliance in case you don’t fully understand the information given and get yourself electrocuted.
If you know an electrician you could ask him to explain continuity testing but to be honest I think you would be best calling in a professional.Craig

After looking at a reply elsewhere I have disconnected the TOCs?? (is this correct) – one with and one without a green spot. The one without a green spot has an open circuit, the one with a green spot doesn’t. Is the former TOC faulty and causing the elements not to heat up?

With the machine unplugged, check the continuity of the two small stats above the heater, particularly the one with a green spot on it.

Dear Moderator
I am not unintelligent, educated to degree level working in computing for over 30 years. After Simon’s reply I am trying to resolve this with the dryer unplugged from the mains. My lack of the correct terminology does not mean that I don’t understand electricity and circuits.

I made no reference to your intelligence and I certainly wasn’t trying to patronise you in any way. I was merely trying to ensure your safety from information gleaned from this site and I shall continue to do so.
We have no idea of your background and are unable to accurately judge your level of competence with electricity. As such we have to assume, as with every member of the public, that we could be encouraging you to attempt repairs for which you are not qualified with potentially fatal results.Craig

That may be the case, but someone else reading this 6 months later may not have that level of understanding and end up with a nasty electric shock at the very least. 😉
The thermostat has failed without doubt, you need kit part number 1701583 which is this one in the shop:

I’m having the same problem, although no light appears in the dryer light.
I checked the heating elements and about 100v going through the heating elements. I check the thermostat by by-passing it and it still doesn’t heat up.
On another site, I read it coudl be the timer? How could I check if it is the timer?
Or could it be something else.

Please don’t live test :zap:
There are two thermostats that need checking for continuity on the heater and one near the door opeining. There is no easy way to check the timer I’m afraid.
Dave.
