ParticipantThe thermostat, fan and element appear to be working correctly but when cooking scones my wife finds that they cook unevenly across and up and down the oven. Top left is well done and bottom right is underdone.
I have put an oven thermometer in the oven and you can see an uneven temperature when placed in different areas which I assume is the cause of the uneven cooking. Looking at newer models of Zanussi built-in ovens I see that they have completely re-designed the backplate and fan lay-out and wonder if this was because of a design error ? Any advice would be appreciated as my wife will not use the oven as it is.August 4, 2005 at 10:37 am #144004Dave_Conway

Door not shutting tightly and/or the door seal are possibilities that can cause unevan cooking.
To check further for any modified parts etc could you find the product code from the label around the door beggining 949????? please as there are no less than 15 versions of this oven 😯

Dave,
thanks for your speedy response. The 949 number is 949710770.
I have checked the door seal and it looks ok. I have felt all round the door and can feel no flow of air when the oven is on. There is a consistent pattern of it being hotter at the top and left. My wife tried to roast some potatoes in the middle with nothing else in the oven and those on the left were more done than those on the right.
Have you seen the current Zanussi model of built-in oven ? The backplate rework and fan positioning is where I would locate them if I was experiencing the problem I am getting.Barry

Nothing obvious to be honest, and no technical bulletins relating to this model.
Are you allowing the thermostat to cycle twice before putting the food in the oven ?
Other than that, a call to your local Service Force agent (main Zanussi service) may throw some light on it.

The new Zanussi range with the offset fan is an entirely new concept of oven that doesn’t vent, therefore all the heat and moisture are kept within the cavity, and nothing to do with your problem. A primary reason of uneven cooking in a fan oven, is using a too high temperature. Try reducing the cooking temperature by 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and note the difference, as there should be a big one. Also, ensure that the fat filter is clean and better still, discard it. They are no longer specified on current BI ovens. If it is blocked, the airflow is reduced and the heating element overheats and therefore increases the presssure and temperature . The high pressure side is on the right, and that is where “scorching” is more noticable. Another possibility is that the fan motor is slowing down, this will also affect the cooking performance.
