I purchased a WD440 and within 7 days it broke down the dryer did not work so I phoned the Hotpoint helpline and was told an engineer would come out to have a look. The next day I phoned the shop i purchased the machine from and they where very understanding and agreed that as I had only had the machine for less than a week they would replace the machine after getting the authorisation from Hotpoint. So the story should end there but the new machine broke down the spin cycle was not working and all the lights would flash so I called Hotpoint again and again they made an appointment for a engineer to come out. The engineer came out and told my partner there was nothing wrong with the machine and it was probably a faulty extension lead that the washing machine was plugged into he never tested the machine with any clothes in but did leave a complimentary sachet of washing powder! So I came home and plugged the machine into the main socket and tried to wash a full load of clothes and the problem was still the same the spin cycle would not complete and the machine just kept turning over until you turned it off so I got back on the phone again and they made another date for the engineer to come out. I had to take the day off work as they couldn’t give me a exact time to expect him. It was the same engineer and I knew he thought I was being silly so I insisted he stayed while I put a load in and then he saw that I was in fact not mad and telling the truth he apologised and said the timing was out and I needed a new “motherboard” which he didn’t have but would order and someone would come the next Friday to fit it! So yet another day was taken off work by my partner this time and the machine was mended! But now less than two months later the dryer is not working the lights flash and the timer is not working so I phoned Hotpoint yet again this time to be told if a engineer came out and there was no fault I would be charged! I have had to cancel the appointment as I am going on holiday and couldn’t get anyone to be at the house on the arranged date. I wish I had never bought this machine I have now had two machines and both have broken down and the problem now is intermittent so I fear if the engineer comes out and says he can’t find anything wrong I will be charged but how Hotpoint take his word as in the past I have been told there was nothing wrong when there was! I am being questioned and doubted do Hotpoint think I have a fixation for repair men? All I wanted was a good washer/dryer and I took my time in choosing the WD440 it wasn’t the best deal but I thought Hotpoint was one of the leading makers now I feel like I have made the biggest mistake and do not feel like I am being treated.
I have just had to turn off my machine for the 5th time tonight and am trying to get my washing sorted for my impending holiday which is making me very stressed! So I will be on the phone yet again to Hotpoint as soon as I get back and yet again begging my boss for yet another day off to probably be told there is nothing wrong and then having a nice bill sent to me for the call out!

    Re: hotpoint WD440

very similar experience to you i’m afraid

got the machine and all fine until a point where spin cyle would not finish.
eventually got a engineer out and said that the program had become corrupt and reprogrammed it and it was fine.
now a few months later and the lights are flashing and it doess nothing. even resetting the power does nowt.

    fed up.

Hello Im in Australia and I just bought a Hotpoint WD440 washing machine off Ebay but it did not come with a manual and we cant figure out how to use the dryer.
Would you be able to send me a copy of the manual by any chance as I saw you have one as well.
If anyone has a manual that they could and email me to it would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thankyou, Jarpy

    strawberrygirl,

You may have bought a Hotpoint but it is full of Indesit electronics, unfortunately they are developing a reputation for serious unreliabiltiy.
