ParticipantI’ve got a problem with an Electrolux Fridge Freezer model ER7626. The freezer appears to be working fine but the fridge has stopped working. It appears to be getting power (green LED on, fridge light on) but nothing else. Any help greatly appreciated.

It’s very probably the fridge thermostat by the sound of it.
The universal one will do the trick here:

Or, if you prefer an exact swap, the genuine Zanussi one is £21.90 inc VAT and delivery, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk to order please.
If you’re unsure how to check and/or change this then please check repairs@ , if you decide to check yourslef, please power off :zap: first.

ParticipantDave,
thanks for info.
Where abouts is the fridge thermostat located?

In the fridge compartment inside the box on the right 😉

ParticipantI’ve ordered a replacement universal thermostat. Thanks for your help.

ParticipantChecked inside the fridge and the only thing in the compartment on the right hand side is the light. The adjustment for the thermostat is above the door in the centre. Looking at the size of the universal replacement I’m not sure it will fit. Do you think I need the Electrolux/Zanussi thermostat?

ParticipantRelaced thermostat. Went in a treat. Not fixed the problem though.
I’ve done some more investigating. There appears to be no air flow coming the the inlet in the fridge . I removed the inside cover from the freezer section and checked the fan is working fine. Which it is.
The freezer matrix was quite badly frosted-up to I defrosted it in the hope that this was in some way affecting the airflow from the freezer to the fridge. That has’not made a difference either.
Any more help greatly appreciated.

KeymasterHi, posted this to another question:
my Zanussi had a similar problem (i.e. compressor always running, low fridge temp, freezer fine) and it was the heater timer that was sticking. This caused the condenser to ice up and reduce air flow. Very simple job of manually turning it using a screwdriver through the purpose-made hole in its housing. It seems to be freed up but I guess may need a new one at some point (cheap).
One clue was that it started making a constant buzzing noise a couple of days beforehand.

Mossy, when you defrosted it, did you check the return air duct, its below the freezer evaporator matrix and if its iced up it will stop the air circulation to the fridge compartment. It looks identicle to the one behind the right hand salad drawer in the fridge.
If everything is clear and the fridge still isnt getting cold then its time for an engineer, even if the defrost timer is faulty the f/f should have worked for a few days once you defrosted it.

Participantthanks for all the help. Its now working fine. It took an age (about 3 hours) after defrosting the freezer matrix for the fridge to start to cool but now it has and appears to be working fine.
I wonder if the reason it took so long to cool is due to a partial blockage in the air duct you mentioned farmboy. If I get any more problems I’ll do a thorough defrost before trying anything.
Thanks again.

defrost timers don’t cost the earth
My frost free fridge freezers been playing up lately. Fridge not getting cold, but freezer is very cold. So happens that because the defrost timer wasn’t working my freezer fins were freezing up and consequently the hole behind it wasn’t getting a feed of cold air to supply my fridge. To actually determine whether my defrost heater element worked, I just rotated my faulty defrost timer’s manual dial until it ‘clicked’ and my compressor stopped humming. Waited and listened for the tissing sounds of water hitting the heating element which indicated the heater was at least doing what it was supposed to. As for the thermostat; once the freezer was completely defrosted and cleared of ice, enough cool air would have been able to circulate into the fridge compartment to chill it to the required temperature to enable it to turn off the compressor when cold enough (therefore, indicating that this too worked fine). To clarify that my defrost timer wasn’t kicking in regularly I just inserted a pencil and marked one side of it. After several hours, I noticed the mark was in the same position as I had originally left it, which indicated to me that the timer had stopped functioning as a timer as it should have rotated the pencil. Hope you enjoyed my masterclass in fault finding.June 5, 2007 at 6:09 pm #144172Washman
