    Hello,

I hope someone out there can help/advice me on this problem –

Its to do with a Panasonic NN-A770S microwave oven.

    LONG STORY SHORT –
The turntable was rotating jerkily and sometimes not at all and also making grinding noises.

So to get to the drive motor which spins the turntable, I opened the panels of the microwave, turned it over, removed the BROKEN SPINDLE bit from the drive motors spindle/shaft and put the panels back on (only the top part of the spindle had broken off, the remaining was intact so was still good to make physical contact to transfer rotational movement).

The glass plate now turns without jerkiness or grinding noise. Great!

BUt, now the damn thing doesn’t heat! I press START, it makes all the correct noises, the turntable turns, but it doesn’t heat up the food!

    Any idea’s, please help!?

I made sure I didn’t touch any circuit boards or electrical connections, but I cannot dismiss human error….and of-course, I had unplugged the applicance before I started.

    SHORT STORY LONG –
A while ago, it started making intermittent grinding noises. Then the noise stopped, so I didn’t think much of it then.

The noise started again a few days later so I investigated – one of the wheels on the roller ring had slipped off, so the roller ring and the glass plate were dragging on the floor of the microwave – hence the noise and the jerky turn of the glass plate.

    I replaced the roller ring.

But, the turntable still turns jerkily. Got to be the motor/spindle part.

So, I unplugged the appliance, opened its panels, turned it over (the motor is at the bottom), unscrewed the motor off its fixing and found that the motors spindle had partly broken off and lodged itself in the casing where the motor spindle meets the turntable spindle.

The wife must have put in some heavy food to cook while the roller ring wheel was off and this must have put excess pressure on the drive motors spindle/shaft which broke the top bit of the spindle (hope that makes sense) and the broken bit stayed inside the casing where the motor spindle meets the turntable spindle. So everytime it turned, the broken bit got in the way and made the grinding noise and made turning jerky.

I removed the broken bit and put the whole thing back together again.

BUt, now the damn thing doesn’t heat! I press START, it makes all the correct noises, the turntable turns, but it doesn’t heat up the food!

    Any idea’s, please help!?

I made sure I didn’t touch any circuit boards or electrical connections, but I cannot dismiss human error.

    Many thanks,
    Baz

Re: Microwave – making grinding noise and now not heating.

Due to the high voltages invloved and the risk of microwave energy escape we cannot advise on microwave repairs I’m afraid Baz.

You need to take it to a specialist microwave repairer who has the relevent safety and test equipment required for your safety.

    Dave.
