Hope someone can help with this one – I feel frustrated not having the knowledge to understand what the problem is.

The pyrolytic function on my 2 year old Smeg Mod UK 1065X-5 doesn’t work. When the function is selected the thermostat light comes on, the fan runs and the element starts heating. After about 2 minutes there is a relay-like click and the oven switches off accompanied by a beeping and what I presume to be an error code of F5E2 on the LED display.

This function has never worked, we only discovered this after the oven was out of warranty. We rarely use the oven and had rare occasion to use the cleaning facility. I called in a local service company & they replaced the lower element. I suspected this was faulty as the oven took about 20-25mins to heat up to working temperature. The service engineer scratched his head when I mentioned the error code but thought replacing the element would fix it. I’ll call them back but am not confident that they will be able to help.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Ask your engineer to check the door lock. The pyrolytic function will not activate until after the door has locked.

    Craig,

Thanks for that. I did think of this but the instruction manual states the door locks at 300C, athough this happens before the cooker reachs 100C? I will mention it to the engineer when he comes back out.

    Thanks,

    Brenski.
