80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of independant retailers are in the North West area of England.
He didn’t mention Scotland. Does the rest of England just leave it to the sheds when their customers need a new appliance? It’s a massive part of our business now. It’s grown to nearly 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the business over the last 5 years.
We go to their Servis which has a collapsed drum after 2 years. They say they don’t want to spend any money on it, then we say “You need a new Bosch.”
We have a showroom with two washers on display, a dryer, and a dishwasher.
“You can have that Bosch, or that Siemens!”
If they want something cheap we point then towards the sheds. But nobody even looks at the washers on display. 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the sales are made in the customers home, when comdenming their old machne. We take a new one out to them, unpack it, then say “That’s what it looks like.”
I thought every independant would sell new appliances 😕

We’re in Preston and sales from the shop front have been abysmal this year. As you say GB, most sales are made in the customers home, so we have decided to shut the shop and just keep the newbies in a unit. It means me selling the house etc. and relocating (shop front comes with the house), but it means I can concentrate on repairs again and get some rest from berks knocking on your house door on a Sunday!!!!
Hopefully the ‘unit’ will be a central heated workshop (garage) fully kitted out, with a beer fridge for those difficult recons 😉 We live in hope!!Tony C

We have a forum called retail corner, perhaps you guys could make some enquies round the site about who sells and why others dont and help to throw some idea’s around.
Poor old don has been trying to develope the retail corner forum on his jack with out much support so why not lend him a hand and lets get all the lads sellin and lookin for the best deals in the retail corner forum.
Try and get the message across that you dont have to have a shop to sell
a machine. We are the first people to know that the customer needs a replacement so why has it always got to be the shed’s that capitalise on that fact. When we have already got our foot through the door.Just a thought

When the boss bought our HQ, 25 years ago, he wanted it just as a workshop and storage. The council told him he had to open a shop!
We are far away from the high street, in a residential area, so foot-fall past the shop window is terrible. Just the same old smack-heads everyday 🙁
Nearly every customer I get, has found me in a directory, and rings me first to see if I have the spare, or can fix the small appliance. Then I have to direct them here; and every customer says the same thing….
“I never knew you were here!”
But the good thing about being away from the high street, is there are no over-heads for us, no mortage, no rent, no staff to pay, just utilities. So when it’s quiet, who cares, do some gardening, it will pick-up next week. 😉
I had a competitor open a shop in the town centre, just doing vacuum sales and repairs. He didn’t last long! How can you support a business on just vac stuff? with a new shop and town centre rates?

I don’t mind; but I think the problem is that retail is a very cagey section of business, where people keep their cards close to their chest. 🙁
That’s why I’m posting this in the subscribers bit. BTW, I hope lots of activity in the subscribers forum, causes more subscribtions.
