ParticipantI recently started getting E3 error codes on my dishwasher. The water wasn’t heating
I have since replaced the heating element (thanks Dave, for swift delivery of part) – I installed the new heating element and the first wash was fine – water heated, dishes cleaned etc. but since then I’ve had repeated E3 error codes appearingand water not heating again.
Now since it’s not the element that’s the problem or the thermostat next to it (I checked that it hadn’t tripped) what else could it possibly be ?😕 😕

Check for broken leads in the door harness where is “bends” them as it appears to be intermittent.
Apart from that is may be a suspect PCB 😕
Not easy these to be honest as the codes aren’t always 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} accurate and other failures can cause software errors giving rise to unexplained errors being displayed.

It’s actually doing a (successful) wash at the moment !! I will check it tomorrow. 😯
Incidentally, when you said “Check for broken leads in the door harness where is “bends” them as it appears to be intermittent. “, what kind of leads should I be looking for and,are they easy to repair ?
Also, if it is a PCB replacement, how much would I be looking to pay for it and again how easy to install ?

There is a wiring loom running down the inside of the door. Everytime that the door is opened and closed you flex it through 90degrees – eventually, the wires break or chaff.
Check this first, the PCB is usually scarey numbers.
Power off if investigating.

Thanks, Penguin. Will have a look at that tomorrow.
How do I expose the wiring loom – do I just undo the inside stainless steel door panel by removing the Philips screws ? 😕

Undoing the screws will allow you to remove the outer door panel. Be extremely careful; you can shave with the edge of the inner door panel.
Power off, of course.

So this is where I’ll find the loom then ? Yeah, I know about how sharp these edges are – I’ve already spilled some Claret in my previous investigations !!!

The initial hot wash completed ok but has since reverted back to washing cold again and with the E3 codes. 😥
Looks like it’s something more serious – obviously the heating element isn’t the problem as that is the new one I’ve just put in.
Any other ideas ? 😕

KeymasterThermostats then PCB, stats first. 😉

How do I go about testing the thermostats (and are there two on this model – one in the door and the other under the heating element where the reset switch is) ?

KeymasterYou need to meter them out and know if they’re normally open or closed and knowing where they’re wired too helps as well. It’s not rocket science to work it out if you know anything about electrickery. If you don’t I’d strongly advise an engineer.
One hint, the one under the heater is a resettable stat and has been known on occasion to trip out for no apparent reason. Push the red button. 😉
We’re not allowed to give you a wiring diagram for the machine, sorry.
Remember, power off, plug out.
