    For a while now our Smeg Double Oven (70cm range) has been tripping the RCD on our house electric system. It would trip when we turned the bottom (fan) oven OFF. It would then trip again when pressing the buttons to reset the electronic clock.

    I have done some preliminary investigation and the above seemed not to happen when the main oven fan was disconnected. (but I have had to reconnect this now).

    I have also cleaned a very dirty thermo switch (I think that is what it is anyway) that is screwed to the frame of the oven at the back.

    Could these weird symptons just be due to a faulty oven fan?

    Any help appreciated.

    Forgot to mention the that this is a Smeg A42 range. How would I go about finding the costs of a replacment fan, element and thermo switch?

    You won’t need all of them 😉

    Ask an engineer to attend and check the components with the correct test equipment, it’ll be cheaper and a lot less hassle in the long term for you 🙂

    Check Repairs@ for one.
