Been to look at one of these American Style Foodcentres, compressor runs for less than a minute then stops (doesn’t seem to go onto run), cooling fan was all clogged up with fluff & almost stopped so may have overheated, i cleared venting & freed up fan, let machine cool for a while but still no start. I see theres an 80mF capacitor & relay on compressor, just want to know if its likely to be one of these causing the prob of is a duff compressor? This appliance is quite old model but i reckon it’d cost £700ish to replace with similar type machine.

Hi,
the cooling fan (condensor) and compressor share the same output from the control pcb, so if cooling fan running, the fault lies in the the starting device or compressor.

I would say it’s the compressor but it’s possible to be the relay.
No way of telling without testing them to be honest.

hi, to check if you have a duff compressor, and rule out that part, is to take an ohms reading across the three pins on the comp. the comp consists of a Run winding, and a Start winding. the third pin is Common. take a reading on all pins in turn. ie between S, C, say 25ohms.
then between C, R, with reading of 50 ohms. then through the last two pins R,S, this usually adds up to your both totals, and gives a reading of 75ohms, this then identifies which windings you have tested inside the compressor, and also tells you if the combined totals dont add up, which winding is duff.
