The door was left open on the freezer overnight the alarm light came on I have monitored the freezer temperature it goes to below -20 but the stat seems to only switch off on position 1 when it was allways left on position 4 and worked fine. The freezer sides left bottom in particular are warm! anyone any ideas please or is it a basket case?

Find friendly neighbor with storage space. Unplug. Carry out 48 HR door open defrost.

Hi Simon thanks for the reply I read a previous posting on the same subject but that one wasn’t a frost free! so if the remidy is the same I will give it a go and shoot the wife!!

I left the freezer off all night and in the sun all day hardly any water from the defrost, now the symptoms are similar if I turn the stat up to max it will not switch off at -24ish if I turn the stat back it switches off at 1, then if I turn the stat up to say 4 is will not turn off at -20ish then I turn the stat back to 1 again and it won’t switch off it’s a bit erratic to say the least!
I think I will shoot the wife and put her in the freezer!
