I have already replaced the carbon brushes in the motor (very worn, but only to be expected after 7 years of hard use), motor now makes a ratchet like noise when turning (i’m sure i have put the brushes in the right way around), suspect this will quieten down as the brushes bed in.

Relay on main logic board clicks in and motor attempts to spin up (half heartedly), then the relay clicks back out.

I won’t have a chance to check the field coils until the weekend, what are the chances of the control board being faulty?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Good chance you have fitted the carbons in the wrong way, also the commutator could be damaged (segments) and yes the next in line to fail if the motor is dodgy is the speed control module 🙁
