This is due to the high volume of spam messages being placed on the boards.

I’m sorry that we’ve been forced to do this, but people come here for assistance, not blatent advertising for things that are of no interest to them and, quite frankly, are often offensive.

Registration is quick, easy and will only take a few minutes to complete, for details please refer to…

Is this going to affect the number of new posts?

Is someone monitoring the traffic since this move?

I hate spam as much as the next guy, but is it that bad?

Is this decision up for review?

Are the council mulling this one over?

Possibly, but not to any detrimental effect in all likelihood. The main drop-offs will be the DIYers who were hoping for quick, specific instructions on how to mend their own appliances.

You’re having a laugh. Admin constantly monitor traffic on this site seven days a week.

    Yes

    Not really

There’s not much to mull over. UKW is being spammed by van loads of Mexicans & Russians and we are not prepared to allow this to continue.

    It’s like this…

The vast majority of web forums require registration for precisely this very reason, sad ****s will sit there and spam away raising the profile of their own sad existence off the back of others hard work and good information. Why should we allow them to continue that practise using UKW?

As yet there’s been absolutely no effect on the traffic levels on site. I don’t really expect any. People that want genuine information will still look here and, if required, they will register to ask a question if it’s not already answered in the forums.

It saves me and the other mods having to trawl through the forums looking for spam messages to eliminate into the wee small hours, thereby saving many a can of beer or bottle of spirits from an early demise thus helping the detrimental environmental effects of additional waste and said moderators health and wealth. So it’s even “green”. 🙂

Seriously though, they just weren’t giving up and using dynamic IPs to hide behind as we tried banning IP blocks and allsorts, but in the end there was little option if we were to put a stop to it.

Agreed! And anything that improves Kenny’s health is welcomed.

Is it working? I can’t see how it can’t work….

So rest assured you won’t lose contact.

On that thought, have a good weekend.
