My Hotpoint washing machine stopedafter filling and has tripped the main house RCD. When I reset it and put the program dial in any position it trips the RCD.

I have disconnected the motor and waste pump but when i turn on the machine it still trips.

How do you check the door switch – there is a red, black and brown wire going to the switch. I have used my multimeter to check continuity and there is no sound from the multimeter to say that there is continuity with the switch in either position.
I have noticed that the rubber seal around the door has a split in it so some water must of escaped – it may have got to the door switch?

Could it be the heater? I have checked continuity on the heater but the mutlimeter does not sound on this either – it comes up with 0.24 ohms?
How do you test the heater – There is another connector block on the heater – should I have disconnected this – Can I disconnect the heater totally and then turn on the machine to see it is doesnt trip

    thanks

Mains filter, water valves, wiring? 😉

Don’t run the machine with anything disconnected as for a start it probably won’t work and for another there’s a serious safety concern with having 240VAC floating free inside.

Door switch itself is the most likely candidate especially if door seal is faulty. If you cannot get a reading between at least two of the terminals, regardless of the position then it is faulty.
