A South Wales logistics company is aiming to treble revenues in the next five years after securing a multi-million-pound new deal with one of the UK’s leading electrical ventures.
Ystrad Mynach-based TWT has secured a long-term contract to deliver all Hoover-Candy appliances throughout the United Kingdom.
The company will have exclusive bulk distribution rights and will transport more than one million items a year.
It has been able to boost its fleet with 14 new trucks and the company expects to create 20 new jobs.
Trevor Taylor, the managing director, said that he hoped to see turnover rise from around £10m to £25-£30m over the next five years.
The firm is set apart from many of its rivals by its investment in technology which is transforming the freight industry.
A £150,000 satellite tracking system allows TWT and its customers to know the exact location and of goods as they move through the country. This allows invoices to be processed when goods leave depots, rather than when they arrive at the destination.
A further innovation, soon to come into operation, involves people signing for goods using a PDA device. The information is automatically sent onto a web site.
Mr Taylor believes this commitment to developing the company was integral to winning the Hoover contract.
Mr Taylor said, “This contract will form an important part of our business.
“But it reflects only part of our operation, which delivers everything from print material to foodstuffs, ambient goods and even carpets.”
Since it was founded in 1989, TWT has grown to have a fleet of 75 vehicles and 115 trailers.
Based on a 12.5 acre site at Duffryn Business Park, TWT runs its own maintenance and warehousing operation, and can deliver single pallets and dedicated loads.
The company’s recent development has been in partnership with Barclays.
Steve Thomas, Barclays relationship director said, “This contract is a great example of a leading manufacturer supporting another Welsh business for the benefit of everyone involved.
“By working closely and really understanding the business, Barclays has been able to support TWT financially and professionally throughout its development.
“This is a well-managed business always ready to evolve and invest for the future prosperity.”
Mr Taylor had the following advice for leaders of Welsh companies with ambitions to break out into the rest of the UK: “I think you have to be honest with people. You have to form partnerships.”
