We have got a large 800mm, 5 hob SMEG gas oven probably about 8 years old which has developed a problem with the oven. After 20mins or so the oven turns itself off. As a temporary fix we have found that if we take out the bottom tray in the oven the oven stays alight. We are also finding it more difficult to get the oven lit in the first place. I presume the problem may be to do with the thermostat would this be correct?
2 years ago I replaced the thermocouple and that seems to be OK still, but the thermostat is about £100 from SMEG and I do not want to buy the part if the problem may lie somewhere else. Any suggestions or advice on things to check or confirm what the actual problem is would be greatly appreciated?

You say removing lower tray stops this fault?
It sounds like an oxygen problem or sensitive FSD.
Time for a Corgi guy to be on the safe side check repairs@Greg

Many thanks for your advice. I think you may be correct, I will fit a new FSD/thermocouple and see if that helps, if not then it will be time for the experts!
