    Hi,

I have a completely dead AWM6140 washing machine, checked internal mains, that’s OK. Mains arrives at control board: so changed control board – still dead. Has anyone any other suggestions that can result in zero (DC or AC) volts at any time even on the door switch ?

Thanks for any help. Failing that, can I buy a service manual anywhere ?

Have you checked the Pressure Switch I wonder? Especially removing the small black rubber hose to it, then plugging it in?

I have now, switch is clear and you can hear the contacts close. The pressure switch has 4 terminals, and I get changeover contacts on three of them. The 4th terminal is isolated from all the others.

This machine is only just over 12 months old !

The new control board is giving me exactly the same failure as the previous one. Do you have any idea what kind of power on self test these machines do ?
    Thanks

Good Lord! and you spent over £100 on a new Timer Module Unit for nothing :con:

Now I have to say that the most logical faults are often overlooked by many who assume the worst as is true in this case. I haven’t a clue what the fault is likely to be from this remote location BUT if I were there I would look around for the obvious :lesson:

Vibration the main factor causes wires to break, rub and chafe. Connector blocks come loose from motors and pumps. Door Locks easily go open circuit. Mains suppressors/filter units do funny things…all need close attention.

On Whirlpool machines their sophisticated circuitry shuts down totally if something like a wire is off the heating element for example?

Look closely for these signs. :boops:

Well actually, no, less than 70, courier delivered. So I have a profitable spare.

Do door switches ALWAYS have a contact that closes when the door does ? Can’t see any volts on the terminals of the control PCB heading towards the door switch though.

True, but I have checked DC continuity through that too.

Service manual, my kingdom for a service manual !

Well, now I’ve checked continuity from everywhere to everywhere and there are no breaks. There is a mains switch on the back of the front rotary switch, which is definitely working, and switched mains arrives at the control PCB. Given the number of wires to the front panel (5 wires) , there must be some electronics on the front panel to multiplex all the required lamps and switch signals. Wonder if THAT will lock out everything else ?

There were no symptoms before the thing failed, no extra noises, no odd behaviour.

Keep the suggestions coming please ! Failing that I’m getting POd enough to fit a PLC from work to the damned thing and be done with it.

Which control unit, the electronic/mechanical (timer) one or the one directly behind the control panel ?

    Dave.

    Hi Dave,
I changed out the electronic/mechanical board (on the advice originally of a “service engineer”), NOT the rotary selector/display/pushbutton board. Out of interest, is the mechanical bit a “timer” ? I thought they were using a timer mech as an actuator to operate the soap drawer selector ?

    Thanks once again.

Finally sorted out with a new front panel board. Now the proud owner of a spare expensive relay/timer card. So if anyone needs a spare for an AWM6140/3 please drop me a line !
