How to open a Dyson cylinder vacuum cleaner DC02 DAS

I have an old Dyson DC02 DAS cylinder vacuum cleaner which has suddenly stopped working. The fuse and filters are fine and there are no blockages.

Although I am tempted to just buy a new one, I had hoped to be able to access the electrical parts to see if there were any obvious problems. Unfortunately none of my tools will open the machine. I would appreciate any advice on what is required to open the motor section of the machine. There are five star like screws with a very narrow access which need to be removed.

    Regards

For safety reasons, I can’t tell you exactly how to open the machine. But your on the right track. Those are torx screws, and the Dyson’s are designed with those narrow access shafts so they are unaccessable with a ‘torx-bit set.’ You need the correct torx fitting on a screwdriver, with a long shaft. Dyson do that to stop Joe Bloggs from splitting the vacs body. 😕 Again, for safety reasons.

It would be better to try and find a local appliance engineer, that does vacuum repairs too, or if your going to split the body yourself, make sure the appliance is isolated from the mains. You don’t want to go… :zap:
