    Hi,
This model performed admirably from new for about 13 months. The fridge part then began to get too warm even though the freezer was still frozen.
I called out British Gas as I have a service contract with them. BG were unable to fix it (I’m pretty sure the engineer they sent didn’t have a clue) so they sub-contracted a proper engineer from an outfit called The Appliance Centre. This engineer did seem to know what he was talking about. He advised me to switch it off for 48hrs to allow it to defrost. I did this and it worked for a few weeks.
To cut a long story short I kept on to BG about the problem who said they were awaiting parts from the Manufacturer. As 4 months or so had now passed I wrote to the CEO of British Gas. They then paid £600 for me to get another new fridge/freezer from Comet.
The reason for my query to you is I think it is such a shame to chuck out the “old” LG, at least I would like to sell it but would only be comfortable doing this if I knew it was OK. For the past month it has been working fine(freezer at -18, fridge 0-4). In fact I am so pleased with it I might even keep it and sell the new one!
Sorry to ramble on but a) Do you recognise the problem, b) What do you think the parts ordered were, c) Can an engineer say yes its OK rather like a car can get an MOT d) Is it possible to get a service contract on it which can be passed on to new owners.

    Hope you can help.

    Hiya,
    To answer your questions.
    a. Yes, I’ve come across this sort of problem before. There are several things that can cause the freezer to freeze up and restrict the air getting to the fridge.
    b. Hard question, what’s ordered would very much depend on the diagnosis made by the engineer.
    c. Yes an engineer can check it over and give his opinion on whether the machine is ok or not but just like an MOT, his opinion is only valid for the time it was checked. A current MOT doesn’t mean a car is roadworthy other than at the time the MOT was carried out.
    d. The maintenance contract may be a little harder. I’d be doubtful as to whether British Gas would take it on seeing as they’ve already written it off and paid for a replacement. Not sure what other contracts are on offer but I’m sure someone on here will know.

    DP (BG engineer) 😛

    Many thanks for your post.
I did try to find an engineer in the repairs@ section but there were none near me (Tooting, London).
I’ll keep looking for an engineer because it’s such a great fridge and a shame to throw out.

    Regards
    David.
