Hello, I have a 3 year old smeg sa628x ‘classic’ (actually very basic) dishwasher that overflows from the front door. I removed the door front so that I could see the water tray and seals. The water level in the tray slowly rises during the wash cycle until it overflows – the door seal design does not seem to create a complete seal since it simply overlaps and closes into the tray. I have cleaned the seals and filter, tried running with no contents, tried tilting the machine up a little in the front, with no success. Is there a water level switch or somthing I should be looking for? Thanks

There is a pressure switch connected to the fill chamber. After 3 years this chamber might also be clogged up.

Power off if you’re going to have a look :zap: otherwise call in a pro. Try Repairs@ for a local engineer.

Thanks for that, I will have a look. I have an electronics background so I know how to be careful 🙄

    Re: SMEG overflow problem

I have checked the level sensors, there appear to be 2, one on the side with an air loop up to an inlet chamber then down to the bowl, and one on the base with an air pipe direct to the bowl. I assume the first is to control inflow and the second to control water level? Anyway checked both and seem to operate ok (only a basic blow in the pipe test), also checked the pipes and bowl for obstructions but all seems fine. Is there a possibility that overloading would permit more water to be inlet before the sensor cut off supply? I assume there is no mechanisim to cause the pump to remove small amounts of water if the level is too high.

    Thanks for any info

    Re: SMEG overflow problem

Anything which stops the spray arms from freely rotating can cause the machine to leak at the front. This may be the result of a failed wash pump which is expensive to replace (>£100) so it’s best to be sure what the fault is before ordering anything.

If Repairs@ doesn’t show anyone in your area Dave Conway has another list which may help or you could try Smeg Service (Servevast) on 0870 444 7002.
