ParticipantI’m interested to know if there are any common faults I should expect to get on my De Dietrich LZ9619 Washer Dryer.
I’ve had a big problem with the main control board already, which is being replaced and I’m considering purchasing an extended warranty in case I get further problems. This is probably a rare manufacturing fault. Therefore I’m keen to know if over a 3-5 year period there are certain repairs that are likely to be required. I can then speak to a repair company and get a cost for these likely repairs and compare them to the warranty expense.
With De Dietrich, I believe that spare parts are only really available to approved repairers, which means that the repairs are not going to be cheap to start with.
The engineer who looked at my machine seemed to think that it resembled a Zanussi. Is it essentially a rebadged Zanussi (now part of AEG I think)? If so, will it require the same frequency of repairs as Zanussi machines? I’m told Zanussi’s need to have the bearings replaced due to wearing out every 2 years.
Hopefully, someone who’s used to servicing De Dietrich machines can enlighten me on this. Also, any views on purchasing an extended warranty and who best to get it from would be appreciated. I normally think that extended warranties are a rip-off but for a washer dryer, it seems to make some kind of sense.

Taking an extended warranty is playing the numbers game, just as the insurer is. Certainly with some, should it be required, it makes a whole lot of sense.
From memory and I can’t confirm this as I have no access anymore to De Dietrich’s parts system, it is really just a bought in Zanussi machine. Zanussi is owned by Electrolux, as is AEG and Tricity Bendix and, as far as I am aware, they all use common tanks. This means that the actual tub is the same but the controls, switches and electronics may be changed so spares can only really be ordered through De Dietrich. De Dietrich are not exactly reknowned for being cheap and often some prices draw gasps of disbelief from customers.
You’ll also generally find that nobody carries stock as the spares are expensive to hold and the range is pretty big. Often Brandt/De Dietrich aren’t exactly quick with them either if they are short.
All this of course pushes up the cost to service the appliance.
Bearings on those machines are known to fail, but I wouldn’t call it epidemic, merely common.
As to whether the warranty is worth it, well we would have been charging an £80 labour fee on any Brandt/De Dietrich product due to the above to make any money on it and, even at that, we often didn’t.
