    Please help,

Hi we have a Hotpoint FD61 dishwasher that had failed due to no water inlet, only constant drain. Per a usefull post here I tilted the machine through 45 deg and found it to be full of water in the base. Once emptied it now works fine again. It’s obvious that ther is an internal leak but my question is is there a weak point from which these machines leak and if so is it the sort of thing that I could do myself or should I leave it to a repair man. It I meddle I may make the leak worse than it already is.

    Thanks
    Steve

    Re: Hotpoint FD61 Dishwasher

    presume you mean a DF61?

Not a machine prone to leak as such and sometimes difficult to find the source of water in the tray. A blocked pump or drain, filter even can cause it so that is the first place to look. Check also the spray arms are not blocked and turning freely.
Difficult to access the working parts on this model, if you try, ensure it is unplugged and safe first.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. Yes it is a DF (I type too quickly). I’ll check the filter and arms in the morning.
    Thanks again

    Hi again,
By the way is it possible to check if the pump is blocked without pulling the machine apart, the filter should be no problem

    Thanks again

If there is a little bit of water under the sump filters at the end of the programme, it ain’t blocked.

Which means ——— presumably that the leak may be coming from the seal between the bas and the pump assembly??????? Could that be a posibility

    Re: Hotpoint FD61 Dishwasher

If there is an internal leak, not caused by the water seeping from the door into the base then you do really need to get an engineer out. As eastlmark has already intimated, this is one machine on which component access is not a DIY job. There are many places that could leak other than the drain pump.

    Hi,

Had the engineer out today. He thinks that water is leaking past the impeller on the drain pump. To expensive to fix as it’s a full strip down. I’ll keep tilting the machine for the time being. Then it’s off to the tip!!!

    Re: Hotpoint FD61 Dishwasher

Are you sure it was the drain pump and not the circulation pump/motor.
The drain pump can be changed without removing the inner tub, Not a major strip down for an experienced engineer, 20 to 30 minutes at the most.
