We have had this washer/dryer for a month now, and in this time we have not been able to detect the temp. difference between the High and Low drying temperature settings. Can anyone tell us if the difference should be apparent, and if so how we can test it, and also should the 20min. cool down at the end of drying leave the clothes cool or still hot. We ask because the clothes are always quite warm to hot when they come out, and today a cardigan was shrunk on the Low temp. setting. To anyone wondering why, as the machine is new, we don’t just call out a service engineer under guarantee, its because with Hotpoint if you call them out and there is not a fault they charge you for the call out, therefore, the customer needs to identify a confirmed fault before calling them or face a huge bill ! Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Don’t let them bully you, if you set the controls as advised in the instruction booklet and it has damaged your clothes then it is faulty. It should be coolish at the end of a full drying cycle. I can just imagine what my response would be if they attempted to charge me for such a call, it would be firm and polite, but they would not get a penny out of me. 😈 Also mention the fact that you will require recompense for the damaged article. Live up to your username, harrass them and hunt them down. 🙂

NB. Remember that the office staff and the engineers are only following orders, don’t take it out on them, if you do not get satisfaction, complain to the Indesit Company.

Temperatures in washer dryers are many and varied. The only way to check if there is a difference in the various settings is by checking the current taken by the machine at each stage of the cycle. The highest reading would be full heat with motor running, next low heat and finally no heat when you should only have the motor current. This is really a job for an engineer but if you have an old disc type electricity meter you may see a difference in the disc speed for each setting, progressivley getting slower. If you can’t tell then call out Hotpoint as you seem to have a legitimate problem, argue with the engineer and he will probably give in. Anything for an easy life! and the amount of calls he is made to get through in a day he will probably be glad to get away!!!
