ParticipantI moved into a new house a year and a half ago and bought the previous owners’ washing machine and dish washer. The washing machine (WD 12 s) has broken, it won’t spin. Indesit say I have to provide the engineer with proof of purchase. The previous owners left no such proof, they didn’t even send off the product registration. All I have is the blank product registration form with a bar code on it. Is there any way that this bar code could act as proof of purchase? Is there any way to tell if this machine is less than 5 years old?
Thanks. 😥

Don’t think that machine has a five year parts warranty, the warranty is not normally transferable to a third party in any case. 😥
Edit. When you say the machine will not spin, is it emptying OK, is the drum revolving on wash, is the timer clicking round, and if so, how many times does the indicator light flash ? It could well be that you would be better off contacting a local independant engineer to have a look.

The drum doesn’t revolve at all, but it makes the same sound as if it is revolving (if that makes any sense?).

That could be a fairly simple repair although you should be getting the timer rapidly advancing and a light flashing a set number of times . Well worth looking for a good local independant rather than pay Indesit prices.
If the main motor is not revolving then you should only get a sound when the machine is on rinse or spin cycles, the noise you will hear is the drain pump.

Hi
Any warranty would be with the original purchaser only and is not transferable, so you will have to pay for any repairs carried out .

Go to http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ select ‘For Consumers’ from the menu on the left and type in your postcode in the relevant box to find your local office. From here you can raise a query with Trading Standards who should be able to give you the best advice on how to proceed with this.

This machine does not have the digital control panel, which as far as I am aware are the only Indesit machines covered by five years parts warranty, any extended warranty that the original purchaser paid for is not transferable to a third party.
Robbie, have you got the user /instruction manual, if so does it mention a five year parts warranty anywhere?

The 1st 3 n/o’s of the serial n/o will let you know how old roughly it is ie= 306 indicates made in june 2003 as 202 indicates made in feb 2002, also if not spinning no and drum runs smoothly could be something simple like needing a belt.

Thanks all
I took the back off and had a look. The belt had worked its way off. I put it back on and all is working ok! 😆
