My 11 year old Bosch fridge, which has performed flawlessly over the years has started to ice up badly. The location of the ice is down the back wall of the fridge and it builds up very rapidly. I defrosted the fridge yesterday, removing all the ice, and within 24 hours there is a layer about half an inch thick. Is it time for a new fridge or can something be done?

I don’t know the model number but the E number is KUL1401GB/03 and it has an auto-defrost function (which is what seems to be no longer working).

    Thanks in advance.

This sounds like an insualtion problem to me to be honest.

The one thing to check before condemning it though is the drain hole below where the ice forms, make sure it’s clear as any water not drained away after the defrost cycle can and will turn to ice as it forms condensation on the back wall.

Sounds like low gas or weak compresser problem. Being 11 yrs old I would imagine it has R12 refrigerant which makes it BER imo.
You can convert to a “drop in gas” but realistically it doesnt owe you anything 😉
