ParticipantMy Bauknecht (Whirlpool) GSF 3040 ws disghwasher (Service nr. 08/8819 76) Typ:Na1/2, other reference 100544 stopped heating the water shortly after we ran cleaner through it (brand unknown) for the first time.
We are in a very hard water area, but my understanding is that the salt softens the water anyway so this should not be a problem.
I presume that this means that the heating element or the thermostat have failed (or is there a reset button somewhere ?). Is it possible to test these in situ, or do I need to strip down first ?
Also, heating elements seem to be very hard to find, while thermostats are readily available. Does this mean that thermostats fail more often (ie this is more likely to be the problem ?)
Thanks for your help and comments.

Penguin,
Thanks for the part numbers. It’s not working on 55 or 65, but the 55 light comes on when I press the button.

I got a more electrically-minded friend in to help and did some more investigation (got fed up with washing up).
There us a white component on the outside of the heater – one of the spade connectors was a bit loose and there was some heat damage to the cable. Any idea what that component is ?
The 55 degree thermostat (which is red with red wires) looks OK (ie there is a circuit through it) but the 65 degree does not have a circuit through it, so I assume it needs replacing (??).
These 2 thermostats were in a holder with space for a third (but none present, and no spare wiring either). Penguin referred to a safety stat, which is presumably there in some models (??).
If this all looks like it adds up to me needing a new 65 degree thermostat, then I want to get one but wouls appreciate some confirmation.
Many thanks

The white component I think is the safety stat by the desription.
Now the connection has been repaired, try it again, it may well solve the problem 🙂
From memory (old model) the thermostats should both be open (no) circuit when cold, can anyone conirm please.
Dave.

The thermostats on the hose elbow should be normally open – timer stopped until relevant thermostat completes circuit and restarts timer.

Thanks, Dave & Penguin.
I did retry (ever the optimist !), but it didn’t work.
From what you say, it looks like the 55 degree stat has blown, not the 65 ?
The reason I keep on with this is that I’ve looked at newer dishwashers and they aren’t anywhere near as nice as this older one. Thanks for your help.

It certainly sounds like it, although the 65C was by far the more common thermostat to fail I guess the dishwasher has been used more often on the 55C setting ?
Nice and cheap anyway:
65c stat – 4819 282 48198 – £10.63
55c stat – 4819 282 48197 – £5.31
Carriage – £3.95. All inc VAT.An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please if you need either or both 🙂

Replaced the 55 degree stat and it’s now fine.
Thanks for your help.
