Our Zanussi FJ1003 washing machine, has been working fine until this morning. We had a loud ticking/grating noise as the drum was rotated by hand, as though something was lodged between the drum and tank.

By rotating forwards and backwards we managed to clear the ‘object’ and the drum now rotates quietly. Obviously it is still in there – how do we gain access to remove what ever it was? We are happy to work ‘from the back’

Bra wire under drum most likely culprit. If it’s gone quiet it may have dropped into the tub to filter hose, or be trapped under the heating element.

    Power off if dismantling.

Thanks for that – can we access the tub through the front seal?

Sadly no, or very difficult anyway. Try shining a torch from inside the drum and see if you can spot the culprit, it should be easier to work out which way to go about removing it then 🙂

😆 Thanks for your help Dave – you were correct as usual – it was a bra wire but must have been there for years, none missing from ones in current use!

Managed to access it by seeing though holes in drum as suggested, moving it with a long prodder to over the filter hose. Then released hose end from tank underneath the machine and removed the offending wire – which was quite bent! Took great care to ensure hose repositioned correctly and tight – no leaks!

Washing now in process nice and quiet – thanks again.
