ParticipantJust back from 2 weeks in the countryside of central Spain.
Why did I come back ????The machine washes fine, but when it gets to spin, it tries to spin up, gets to a resonable speed and then stops spinning, it tries about 3 times during the spin cycle, then the timer gets to the end of the programme.
Have checked carbons, pressure system, megger tested the heater and motor ok, checked for loose connections on motor and timer.
Did a search here for this machine, one item came up re tacho coil fits a lot of other machines, and good for van stock.
Anyone had any faults on this machine with similar symptoms please
Back out again now to try to clear the backlog of jobs, if I can get through the traffic jams that seem to be around today.

As long as continuity of the tacho has been checked it can’t be much other than the timer/control unit I wouldn’t think. Nowt else in there really to cause it 🙂

Another way to check a tacho is to measure voltage across the tacho connector, at timer if easily accessible or motor if not, as you spin the motor pulley with fingers. I usually find it’s about 2 or 2.5v , think it’s ac but can’t remember for sure. This way you’re checking magnet as well.
Might be worth a search through the forum under hoover spin problem as lots of similar models.

I have had tacho wires break very close to the tacho coil and when you check it it has a circuit, but if you play with the wire it breaks. They are very feeble wires. I have also had that same fault and it was a down to earth heater element, but i think that was the hoover quatro, and another time it was the timer module, but more common on the later performa versions with the seperate module which seem prone to dry jointing on the motor contacts by the relay switches.

Couldn’t get any resistance reading across tacho coil at all.
Tried measuring voltage across tacho while spinning armature, there is some voltage but difficult to measure with a digital multimeter.Have ordered a new tacho coil

Pleased to say new tacho coil, and machine works fine now.
Resistance of new coil 157 ohms, also measured voltage from new tacho coil turning the pulley as fast as I could by hand .8v AC
