Just had a call that is unfortunately just outside my area, Waterfoot/Rossendale. Customer has a BC145 integrated Hotpoint (Indesit) dishwasher that has had fire in the base and tripped the RCD. Machine can only be around 2 years old but it was purchased by the previous owner of the house so he has no documents. I have initally advised him to have a look here for a Repairs@ engineer but also told him that Hotpoint may be his best course of action. From his description it sounds like a BER job, has anyone had a fire in any of the Indesit/Hotpoint dishwashers of this type, if so what was the cause and resultant damage.

I would think that if he makes the right noises 😉 he should get a replacement.

👿 I hate those dishwashers, a million screws before you do anything, not to mention un building it. I have seen LOTS of these dishwashers suffer from internal floods. There seems to be a number of reasons for this happening; from the appliance simply leaning forward slightly or maybe the carbon face seal on the motor leaking, If fitted with plastic sump filter which warps and deflects water direction into wrong plces, or maybe just an over fill (Which i believe can be caused by the timer) causing water to run down the flood protection pipes at the lip of the tub. Maybe this could have been the cause? A difficult one to work out really depending on the extent of the fire damage.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards, Robert.

I had a free standing one today (sorry no model number) that had caught fire and tripped the RCD. This was only 13 months old. I sent the customer to Hotpoint with the hope that they will take responsibilty.

The motor was burned out, there is a black hose above the motor that had melted and squirted water everywhere. The plastic unit on the bottom of the tub that holds the motor mount had completely melted. The resin unit has melted and distorted. I didn’t investigate further to find the reason for the fire but the base looked as if it has been wet for a while. The machine is leaning forward by about 10mm top to bottom.

All in all, its a bit of a sh#t machine really. (Under-statement or what!!)
