ParticipantHi Guys,
I have a Bosch SGS5302GB/07 that has stopped working. 😥
Tried to use it the other day and noticed that the display on the front was dark. I then found that there was still water in the bottom of the unit from the previous wash.
There is mains to the unit.
I cleared out the water and have checked that the impellor on the pump rotates. All appears to be ok.
I have removed the front panel and there is mains to the ‘on’ switch. With the door closed if I operate the ‘on’ switch I can see mains on the cables to the main cct board (these little screwdrivers that can sense mains are very useful!) So it appears that handle/On link and the On button is working ok. I have reseated all the connections on the board but it made no difference.
Its very difficult to diagnose without a cct diagram, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 😉
Thanks Paul.

Without a test meter I’m afraid you’re not going to get too far. Furthermore we will not advise or recommend on the live testing of appliances for very obvious reasons.
From memory, the display will not illuminate with the door open – the door latch must complete the circuit to power the board. From your description it does sound like a circuit board failure. I would check for dry joints and continuity, beyond that without proper test gear you’re going to need help for a full diagnosis.
Check Directories or repairs@ for help in your area.
BTW, even us professionals can’t get our hands on Bosch tech info.

Hi Penguin45.
Thanks for the concern for my safety, I am certified to work on live mains during my normal day job and appreciate that many non technical people read the forums. 8)
The door was fully closed, as you say the handle linkage is a safety feature and cuts the mains to the cct board when opened.
I haven’t taken the cct board out yet, that was going to be the next step. Reading through the forum the boards do seem to be prone to burning out tracks!
A meter and a good cct diagram can solve most problems
The point I was making, very badly, about the mains sensing screwdrivers is that you can test for mains without actually touching anything.
Thanks again for the advice
Cheers Paul.

I agree that mains sensing screwdrivers have their place but please don’t rely on them for diagnostic purposes.
Only ever use them to prove that a circuit HAS power, not that is does not. If you see what I mean.
They can often pick up stray voltages (even static on plastic items).
The ONLY safe way to check appliances is with the plug removed from the wall and use a low resistance meter to check continuity through the circuits.
Always check the neutral connections as well by the way.Bob

Hi Bob
As you say they have their place but don’t trust your life to them! 🙄
I would not advise anyone who does not have the proper training to work on live equipment.
Any ideas welcome.
Cheers Paul.

Hi Penguin45
I’ve had a look at the cct board and 1 of the contacts on the large NAIS relay was dry. I have re-soldered it.
I get about 400 ohms through the coil of the relay, which is about right when you look at the spec for this relay on the web. I also get a reading on the NC contacts.
I put it all back with great hopes, but its still as dead as a Dodo! 🙁
Are there any other fault conditions that could cause this fault? I’m pretty sure your right with your first diagnose’s that the control board has blown. 😥
Thanks Paul

Hi Paul.
Can you confirm that you have checked continuity through both poles of the on off switch… With a test meter not a non-contact volts tester! It is amazing how many engineers miss a faulty neutral connection!
Remember all tests must be done with the plug disconnected from the mains.
By the way, have you tried another appliance in the socket?
Bob
