ParticipantI’m about to buy a new freezer as the Iceline one that I’ve had since about 1997, which has been nothing but trouble since first bought is finally about to give up. It’s a so called frost free freezer, which I guess is technically correct but nobody told me that I’d be swapping frost for blooming great chunks of ice which cement the baskets to the back of the freezer! The ice is the reson it’s giving up..it keeps stopping the fan working.
Anyway….back to the subject. I’m looking to spend around £250-£300 on a new upright freezer, not too tall, about 5ft (my height) as I want to be able to see into the top shelf! It is to go in my garage which is attached to the house.
Any recommendations? I was looking at the Beko and Scandinova ranges on Comet website. I went to look and thought the Beko drawers seemed very small and there wasn’t a Sacndinova model for me to look at. The only pictures of the Scandinova model are of the front and don’t show the arrangement inside. Any help appreciated. Ms. S.

I’m afraid to say that if you go with the two you are looking at you may well be faced with similar problems, it’s not unlikely that those products are produced in the same factory (Scandinova is a Comet own brand name).
Refrigeration, look at Bosch, Zanussi and Whirlpool 😀

Thanks Dave. I’ll go start my research anew! Stumbled across your site and have to say it’s wonderful. 😀 Keep up the good work. Many Thanks.

Thanks for your help. A new Whirlpool freezer delivered this morning from Currys, and old one taken away. Glad to see the back of it! New one looks good. Will write a review when I have it up and running.
One question…. The delivery man said I had to wait 8 hours before switching on. The manual says 2 hours. Which is correct? I believe it has something to do with settling and equalisation of the refrigerant. Is that correct? 8 hours does seem a long time.
Thanks

Leave it for 8 hours to be on the safe side.
If the freezer has been turned on it’s side or even upside down it may even need longer. 2 hours only applies if you can guarantee that it’s been kept level 🙂

Ah…..I guess anything could have happened to it before it arrived here. Will leave for 8 hours like a good girl and do as I’m told…though I’m itching to turn it on so I can get out there and buy some goodies!
You guys are really great! Thanks for all your help.Sheila
